5/28/14 – Bernard Kinsey, What You Didn’t Learn in High School History at Atlanta History Center, Friday, June 6th!
Reception 6:00 PM, Lecture 7:30 PM
Experience a dynamic evening of enlightenment and inspiration as historian and renowned art collector Bernard Kinsey takes you on a journey of discovery through many untold stories of African American history, accomplishments, and contributions. Kinsey debunks the more than 400-year-old “myth of absence” in American history, drawing from the extensive collection of artistic and historical treasures amassed in The Kinsey Collection. He reveals long ignored stories of the roles African Americans played in the making of America.
Afterwards, Professor Cliff Kuhn from Georgia State University, a noted local expert on Atlanta history joins Bernard Kinsey for a panel discussion moderated by Condace Pressley of WSB AM/FM.
Evening program also includes a reception and pre-lecture viewing of Wells Fargo’s nationally traveling exhibition The Kinsey Collection: Shared Treasures of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, Where Art and History Intersect. The Kinsey Collection exhibition is on display at the Atlanta History Center through July 13, 2014.
Book signing follows the lecture. Copies of The Kinsey collection book are available before and after the program.

The opening events for The Kinsey Collection/ Wells Fargo tour at Atlanta History Center were one for the books. Over 500 of Atlanta’s finest came out for Thursday night’s VIP reception hosted by Wells Fargo, including Ambassador and civil rights leader Andrew Young, former Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell, producer and casting director Reuben Cannon, Bernice King, Andrea Young and Jerry Thomas, Atlanta History Center’s CEO Sheffield Hale and a host of Wells Fargo executives. The energy was electric and people left inspired and excited to spread the word about the exhibit.
Saturday’s public opening was incredible, as The Kinsey Collection exhibit broke the opening day attendance record for the Atlanta History Center. We couldn’t be more happy with the response in Atlanta and want to especially thank our Wells Fargo and Atlanta History Center partners/team for making it such a success.

We had a great time participating in the Disney Dreamers Academy (DDA) at Disney World this past weekend. In 2008, Walt Disney World created Disney Dreamers Academy in partnership with Steve Harvey and ESSENCE Magazine to encourage Dreamers along their paths to success, to provide them with tools to let their potential shine, and to convey that the power of dreaming is the first step to achieving their goals. This year’s DDA marked the one year anniversary of our “Rediscovering America: Family Treasures from The Kinsey Collection” and we were on hand to meet with all of the “Dreamers”, giving tours of the exhibit and words of encouragement. Guests this year included Magic Johnson, Lauren London, E! News’ Terrence Jenkins, Entertainment Tonight’s Rocsi Diaz and 15-year old CEO, Jaylen Bledsoe.
