Woman Wearing Orange Scarf

Waring studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, graduating in 1914. She was a prominent portraitist who exhibited in museums around the world, including the Smithsonian. Waring painted the Harmon Foundation’s series Portraits of Outstanding American Citizens of Negro Origin, which includes now-famous portraits of W.E.B. Dubois and Marian Anderson.
